The novitiate had their monthly holy hour on the Thursday before first Friday. We take turns writing the prayer service and creating the ambience in chapel. This month, it was the first-year novice, Sr. Heather Marie's, turn. Her Holy Hour with the Saints was inspirational and reflective, with time for silent contemplation, music, and prayers from the saints.
The novices continue their Spanish classes with Sr. Antonia, here in Connecticut. We hope to learn to converse simply in the language, at least, as a means of alleviating the concerns of Hispanic immigrants. We also have begun to say one decade of our common rosary in Spanish, so that we can begin to learn the prayers, too. We went for our monthly trip the soup kitchen, where we serve the food, help with the dishes, and talk to the clients who come.
The novitiate house community went to Ellis Island to see the Women and Spirit exhibit in the museum there. It was a touching tribute to the contributions that women religious have made to America, especially in the fields of health care and education. The courage and devotion of these women is truly inspiring!
Sr. Grace, the second-year novice, continues to teach CCD to 3rd graders at a local parish. The class made banners about the four marks of the Church for a CCD Open House, which was well attended. She also teaches beginning French at the Montessori School on the property here in her spare time.
The Felician sisters celebrated the 155th anniversary of our founding on November 21st. The novitiate joined the sisters at the main convent for special prayers and Mass, as well as for some great meals! It was a joyful day for the community.
