February Update

The last few weeks have been full of activity at school and socially! We finished up the third marking period and wound down before winter vacation started. My class had a science project that was due before Lent started. They made earthquakes, volcanoes, tornadoes, and hurricanes, and presented them to the class. Many of them were creative and well-done, but the volcanoes stole the show. Most of the students who had this topic made erupting volanoes, much to the rest of the class' pleasure.

We began Lent with a prayer service for Ash Wednesday. The whole school gathered to pray, hear Scripture read, and then received ashes from the sisters who minister at the school. It was a lovely and solemn way to begin the season.

The sisters at the convent were invited to have dinner at the house of one of the families at the school. The father of this family has been friends with one of the sisters here for several years. One of the children is in my class, and I must admit that it was a little awkward to relate to her outside the classroom and school environments. I think that she felt the same! All in all, it was a nice visit, and the family offered us heartfelt hospitality.

The parish here has a holy hour and Stations of the Cross each Friday, which we will take part in. I suggested that we volunteer at the soup kitchen in town during Lent. Also, the bishop is giving talks on Wednesdays, which we will be attending.

I think everyone was happy and relieved to start a week's break from school. The children were so excited that it made teaching them frustrating at times. I think they started their vacations early! Now we all get to enjoy the time to rest and have fun!

  1. How do you manage to keep the same enthusiasm for your vocation while engaged in ministry?
