Another Chapter ends, another begins ...

The school year ended s-l-o-w-l-y. I am not exaggerating when I say that I felt each hour of each day of the last two weeks! A last day of June 20th makes for a long school year, especially with the class that I had. The last few days, however, were marked by special events like a field trip, an outing to the park, and Mass. I also put them to work undecorating and organizing the room, as well as covering the bulletin boards and white board. Might as well harness their energy! Too, I was hoping to be done with the room on June 20th, in anticipation of the long road trip to Michigan.

Yes, as I was winding down at school, packing, organizing, and cleaning, I was also packing for my move to Michigan! The next time that I go there I'll be flying, so I needed to bring anything that won't fit in one suitcase. We finished school that Thursday, packed the van that night, and headed off late Friday morning. We stopped at one of our convents in Buffalo overnight before starting out again the next day. One of the blessings of being an international community is that we have homes in many places, where we are always welcome. Warmed by the hospitable love of our sisters, we headed to Michigan.

After unloading my boxes and bags at my new convent, we went out to dinner and took a walk with the sisters of the house. The easy camaraderie and joy of everyone together was lovely to experience. I also spent time with my new principal and local minister and found that she was as kind and good-natured as everyone has been telling me.  I feel like this will be a good situation for me and look forward to the change.

Then we left to pick up another sister. See, I am moving to Michigan and she is moving to Connecticut. So, my belongings came out of the back of the van and hers went in! The three of us headed back the way we had come. It was an easier drive with three people and we enjoyed the time together. I think I'm still recovering the road trip, but it was an adventure, and it all worked out for the best.
